Consistency is a word that I often hear thrown around. If you want to be successful in business, you have to be consistent. If you want to grow your business, you have to be consistent. But what does consistent/ consistency actually mean?
In this blog I am going to explore the meaning of being consistent in business and share with you what consistency means to me.
What is the common thought on Consistency?
It is true that consistency is an imperative part of business, but what does this mean? It seems to be the case for many a business owner that consistency is often construed as the frequency of which business owners show up on social media. The number of times in a day or week they post content, do a live video, share a story or create a REEL. The more the better, right?
Wrong!
Consistency isn’t all about spewing out lots of content. However, saying that, there actually isn’t a right or wrong number of times of uploading our message to our chosen social media platform in a day.
I personally suggest to clients 2 to 3 times a day Monday to Friday, although I am also aware that this isn’t possible for all businesses, due to the time involved creating content. In fact, two businesses that both sell exactly the same product may have a different optimal number of posts for a week.
Therefore, the key to a successful social media business is creating messages that speaks to and are of value to your ideal client. Hence, we’re talking quality over quantity.

What does consistency mean to me?
So, what does consistency mean to me? Consistency to me is creating a business brand and culture that is constant throughout everything I do.
The service I provide including how it is delivered, the language, the colours, the style, I use. Every process that goes into making my business what it is.
Showing up when I say I will.
If I say I’m going to show up every Friday at 2pm, then that is what I will do. If for whatever reason I cannot make this promise I will let my audience know. However, I will strive to fulfil this commitment.
If I decide to share a tip every Tuesday, then I will continue to do so because I know that my audience will be looking out for this post.

Be Authentically You!
Be honest with who you are and don’t try to be something you’re not. Apart from being very difficult to maintain, pretending to have certain views of the world and keeping up a pretence to behave in a certain way, will soon become very obvious to your audience, especially through your video content.
Therefore, don’t be afraid to be authentically you. This way when you show up and share your views and values you can be consistent in your message.
Your ideal client will love you for that and it will be easier for them to build a relationship with you and connect with your message.
Style Consistency.
This one might seem quite obvious, and I have briefly touched upon this subject earlier on in the blog. Using the same set of colours, fonts, filters, logos and styles when creating your branding materials and infographics is also a form of consistency.
It is vitally important that the way you package your products, deliver your service, and speak to your customers is consistent throughout.
Even the way you start and finish a live video, the things you say and the way that you say them is part of your brand consistency.
In this article I have given a brief summary of what I feel that consistency in business is and is not.
Therefore, to sum it up ‘consistency’ isn’t all about frequency. Consistency in your business is about being consistent, uniform and reliable in your message and all that you do.
