These days it can be quite easy for someone to call themselves a business owner. Setting up a home business has never been easier with the use of technology and social media. From selling home made crafts, becoming a virtual assistant, or joining an MLM company who specialises in health, fitness or beauty the list is endless.
But with so many businesses failing in their first year, the question is, what can you do as a business owner to ensure you new venture succeeds?
In this article I am going to share with you 6 tips to ensure your business is on the road to success.
1.Decide on who you need to become.
Running a business is hard work and takes a lot of determination, so first you need to decide how serious you are about building your business. For a lot of people their home business is just an expensive hobby. They play shop but don’t really put themselves out there to be successful.
This can be for many reasons, but the most common include self-doubt in their capabilities, confidence in sharing what they offer and not putting their ideal clients first.
Yes, I said it! If you’re too wrapped up in what your business can do for you, you have forgotten what your business can do to help your audience solve their pain points. By putting your ideal customers problems first and at the forefront of your business you will start to worry less about putting yourself out there.
So what’s holding you back? What do you need to do? Who do you need to become to be a successful business owner?
2.Share your Personal Brand.
What is going to help you stand out from other businesses in your industry?
The answer is you! Sharing your personal brand is not just about your branding colours and font, it’s the way you show up and do business. The way you package your goods, the way you share content (eg. Video, infographics) and the language you use, as well as your story.
If you would like more information on sharing your personal brand, check out my blog, ‘What is my personal brand and why it’s important to share.’
3.Consistency.
Consistency is key to building your business. I can’t tell you exactly how often to post content however I can tell you that posting once a week or every so often is not going to help you build the know, like and trust you need to develop a relationship with your ideal client.

Set a content plan in place and show up daily if needs be. By not showing up you are doing your audience a disservice.
Have weekly events such as ‘Top Tip Tuesday,’ that your audience become familiar with. If you feel you can not commit to a specific time, allow scheduling to become your new best friend.
4. Add Value.
It is recommended that when creating our social media content, we share 20% sales posts and 80% value. What content your ideal client considers as valuable is something you will need to research and find out.
Ask questions, try out different types of content and check your insights for feedback, but remember likes and comments don’t always result in sales.
The key is to vary your content throughout the week and share what your ideal client wants to see.
Adding value such as tips, ‘how to’ videos and sharing an inspirational story allows you to become the expert in your field and connect with your audience.
5.Plan Ahead and Set Goals.
It is important to set your business goals. Write them down, break them up into manageable and measurable tasks and set a deadline. For more tips on setting goals check out my blog, ‘How to achieve a Business Goal.’
To help keep on top of your social media posts, I would recommend having a weekly plan of the content you wish to share, for instance, Monday night post a sales post, Wednesday morning ask your audience a question, etc.
Scheduling will also help you to be consistent with your content.
Make sure all content has a purpose and is helping you to achieve your business goals.
6. Networking.
Running a business is not easy, so surround yourself with supportive, like minded people who understand your journey. Stay focused on what you want to achieve and feel the fear and do it anyway.
Networking has really allowed my business to grow, not just because it has enabled me to share what I do with others, but because it has let me gain support and build in confidence.
In this article I have shared 6 tips to put in place to aid with the success of your business. Some may be easier to implement than others but don’t be discouraged as growing a business takes time.
Get into a mindset where failure is not an option. Of course, not everything will go to plan, but use these mistakes as learning tools and allow your business to grow.
