Are you exhausted trying to juggle everything you need to run your business? Are you comparing yourself to others and wondering how they make it look so easy? Or do you feel like you’re on the brink of giving up because things are just not going to plan?

I get it! I really do! You’re wearing so many different hats it’s hard to balance them all at the same time. You’re director, admin, finance, marketing, HR, designer, packing and shipping, as well as mother, wife, daughter, chef, cleaner and so much more.

In this article I am going to go through a few options to help beat the overwhelm.

Networking Groups.

First of all, make sure you’ve joined a few networking groups and find your type of people. They will be great for times when you need help, feel like giving up or want to celebrate.

Time Off

Now when was the last time that you took some time off and did something for you? Don’t laugh this is not a trick question!

Take that time off whether it’s a week, a day, an afternoon or just an hour. I promise you you’re business will still be there when you get back and you will feel so much more energised for taking that break. How can you keep on giving when you’re running on empty?

Relaxation Time.

Schedule in your relaxation time, just as you would any other job you have to get done. Mark it on your weekly planner and stick to it!

Business overwhelm

Have a look at your workload.

Are there any jobs that don’t really need to be done? Sometimes we procrastinate over the smaller jobs because we don’t want to do the bigger ones.

For example, are you posting 5 times a day when actually posting 2 or 3 times would be just fine? Or are you forcing yourself to write a new blog every week when occasionally reposting an older blog would be just as great. Or are you running around trying to attend every networking event when you really don’t have the time.

Outsource.

Are you expecting too much of yourself? Even superheroes need sidekicks!

Have a look at the jobs you love and the jobs you hate to do. Maybe you could hire a VA, a social media manager, an accountant or even a cleaner, if the housework is getting you down?

Plan Your Week.

Having a plan for the next 6 months, month, fortnight or week will really help to save you time and because you will be more organised you will feel less stressed. Set yourself some time so that you can make a plan of action.

Celebrate Your Wins.

When you run your own business there isn’t anyone there to pat you on the back and tell you that you’re doing a great job. Therefore, we have to do it ourselves, which I know can feel very strange at first.

Celebrating your wins doesn’t have to be anything big, maybe treating yourself to a nice coffee, a bottle of wine or a takeaway at the end of a busy week.

Telling ourselves well done and highlighting what has gone well in a week can really make us feel better and save us from feeling like giving up.

Don't Compare.

Finally, don’t compare yourself to anybody else. It will not do you or your business any good, just keep focused on what you are doing.

People very rarely share their struggles, especially on social media. Therefore, someone seen as doing really well are probably over working, struggling the same as you or have a team of help behind them.

I hope these suggestions can help you to beat the overwhelm of running a business by yourself. Business can be very lonely when doing it buy yourself, therefore as suggested in my first point find a group of other business owners to hang out with, even if it’s only over social media because I can guarantee that someone else is going through the same thing as you.
