Anyone can experience stress, anxiety and mental health issues, especially at Christmas time as we’re all so busy rushing around we forget to look after ourselves.
Even our children can feel the pressure of Christmas and all those parties and events, Christmas lists and sugary treats can make for a real rollercoaster ride of emotions.
This blog is not going to tell you that you don’t have to buy your children those big expensive gifts this year and get yourself into a huge amount of debt, deep down you already to know this.
In this blog I am going to share with you my idea of a Christmas memory/ feelings book. This idea can be used for both adults and children and is a fantastic way of taking a moment away from the hustle-and-bustle that is Christmas, to focus on the yourself.
Do it your way and make it personal.
This activity can be done in a number of ways. It can be a personal blog of events and feelings or a shared family activity. First get yourself a notebook. Each day write or draw about the experiences, feelings and emotions you’ve had that day.
So for example, if you’ve been to visit Santa, how did it feel, what did you see, was it exciting or scary. If you’ve been Christmas shopping, was it a successful trip, was it stressful, why did you feel this way and is there anyway to make the experience less stressful, tiring or do you have any good tips you need to remember for next year?
Why do this when there’s so much else I could be doing?
You’re probably thinking “why give myself an extra thing to do over this busy time, when there’s so much more I could be doing?” Well my simple answer is that it will give you something to focus on and allow you to have some me time, whilst exploring your festive highs and lows. If done with children it will allow them to tell you how they feel, something which they may not otherwise do. So, it can be a really useful tool for getting all those stresses and anxieties out in the open.
If you find you can’t do this every day, don’t worry, try a few times a week especially if you’ve been and done something exciting and festive or if you’ve had a particularly stressful day.
Give it a go and see if “writing it out” can help with all those holiday stresses.
